REGIONAL ACTIVITY
The Regional Chess Scene is well underway with Wellington Chess Club commencing their first major tournament series of the year with the first round of the Autumn Cup last week.
Two players from the Kapiti Region are taking part, Messrs Ross Jackson and Alan Winfield
The tournament is divided into 7 Grades, 6 of which are played as a 5 match, Round Robin, with the top 6 entrants placed in Grade A (Generally those rated 2100+ who are also, some of the best players in the country!!)
With Ross and Alan's ranking, they are both in the same Group (Grade D) and so apart from highlighting the top echelon, we will also follow their progress in their respective games.
Grade G is played as a 5 Round Swiss Tournament.
LOCAL ACTIVITY
THE BLUE TRAIN CHESS CLUB
A quiet night last week with 1/2 a dozen regulars coming out in a chilly breeze however, host Chris Evans warmed things up with (apart from heat pump) some Pizza and a little taste of Feijoa Crumble and Ice Cream!! Very much enjoyed by those attending.
The club is looking forward and counting down to the visit from the Rongotea Chess Club on Sunday 26th May. Both clubs are hoping this will be a regular event, with plans for Rongotea to reciprocate later in the year.
Chris Evans (Blue Train Proprietor) has provided a very nice menu for our lunch break and weather permitting, the club hopes to have the matches played on the decking between the two carriages.
If you have some time to kill maybe pop along and watch the action which should start around 10.45am. Afraid lunch is a numbers game and only pre-booked orders can be taken. If you want to make a day of it contact Alan on 0276 337 228 and you could also join in the banquet too!!
THE KAPITI CHESS CLUB
The second series of the Leo Eicholtz Board commenced last Tuesday. This is a "Rapid" Rated tournament with time controls of 25 mins + 5 Sec increments per move.
