In Memoriam - ROSE KINGSTON

ROSE KINGSTON
1938 - 2018

It is with great sadness that we report the loss of a Cherished member of the Kapiti Chess Club with the sudden passing of Rose who died at home on Sunday 4 November 2018.

Rose had been involved with the club for over 20 years and along with her husband "John" helped the founding members, establish Chess as an active "Sport" on the Kapiti Coast.

With Rose' daughter "Zoe" also taking up the game, the "Kingston" family were an integral part of "Chess on the Coast".

Over the past 10 years Rose had taken on the role of Club Secretary, assisting the Treasurer and President with the running of the club.

Rose also took on the responsibilities of looking after the equipment, bringing all the sets to the club and staying till the last person left to take them home again, regularly staying an extra 2 hours or more after her own games had finished.

She would also bring the nights refreshments every week, making sure that we had plenty of Tea/Coffee available for ourselves and any visitors that would pop in.

Small clubs like ours often struggle when no-one raises their hand to take on the tasks seen as cumbersome.  Kapiti Chess Club were fortunate indeed to have a member who embraced these tasks with a smile.  She was an important member of our club and will be greatly missed.

The Kingston family have requested "No Flowers" but donations to Wellington Free Ambulance would be appreciated.

A service to celebrate Rose' life will be held at the Paekakariki Memorial Hall, Marine Parade, Paekakariki, on Friday 9 November 2018 at 1.30pm.  To be followed private cremation.

On behalf of all members of the Kapiti Chess Club.
Alan Winfield
Club President

  1. Rose will be so sorely missed by myself and other members of the Kapiti chess club.
Always welcoming to new members Rose had such a friendly and humble disposition towards fellow members. Rose was not the greatest chess player but she entered into the spirit of the battle with determination and kept smiling Win Lose or draw
.Rose did a lot of work behind the scenes organizing coffee tea and biscuits and often turning up with a bottle of Cedrics milk which she never charged the club for
. She also took the chessboards and pieces home and turned up every week and stayed to the very end
.Rose was a very generous person

Rose you will be sorely missed but never forgotten
.Thankyou for the memories God Bless you Rose
