THE BLUE TRAIN CHESS CLUB
The Blue Train Chess Club had its inaugeral Opening Night last week and after only a short promotion period, had a fairly successful night with 7 people attending and getting involved in playing Chess.
A good mixture of players from Beginners to good club standard turned up and so whilst those who were fairly experienced got stuck in, Club Organiser, Alan Winfield spent a little time with some basic training on Openings for the beginners.
Though early days for the Club, the organisers felt it was a good start with those attending confirming a good time was had and plans to become regulars.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday and for any new readers out there, the Club meets at the Blue Train 31 Rimutaka St, in Paraparaumu from 6.30pm.
KAPITI CHESS CLUB
Over at the Kapiti Chess Club their first tournament of the year, The Rose and John Kingston Memorial Trophy is well under way.

Top 5 placings are:
G Lyall 4pts = 1st
A McGowan 4pts = 1st
G Gunawan 3.5pts = 3rd
G Biurns 3.5pts = 3rd
R Jackson 3pts = 5th
D Paul 3pts = 5th
WELLINGTON CHESS CLUB
Down in Wellington the club is currently running its Summer Cup tournament and though it's not unusual to see Anthony Ker and Nic Croad at the top after 4 rounds there are a few new names joining them in, Brian Nijman, Ryan Winter and David Cilia Vincenti, an established player who has recently moved to Wgtn from the South Island.
Crosstable after three rounds
