WELCOME TO A NEW CHESS YEAR

With 2018 behind us, we welcome both old and new visitors to our first Newsletter of 2019 and the start of a New Chess Year.  Our chess programme for 2019 will be published next month after the AGM on 19th February, however as has been tradition, we will kick off the year with the 1st round of the John Kingston Memorial Trophy on Tuesday 29th January.

Please note - all members will be entered into the tournament unless otherwise notified.   No half-point bye unless absence notified. Arrive prior to 7.45pm.   Draw will be made at 7.45

Our first club night of the year will be tomorrow night (22nd at 7.30pm) and for those with short memories, please remember we have now relocated to our "New" premises in the rear Hall of the Salvation Army Kapiti Corps Headquarters on Bluegum Road, at Paraparaumu Beach.

NEW NZCF RATING LISTS

The NZCF has published the latest Ratings/Rankings for both Standard and Rapid Ratings.   The new lists are shown below however they do not tell the full story.  Due to our own Championship tournament not being completed in time, the results were not included in the last quarter assessment but will be added into the 1st quarter of 2019.

Alan's poor form over the latter half of 2018 saw  him drop 3 places but stays in the top 100 at 99.  He was able to improve his Rapid Ranking however, rising to 43 in the Rapid Top 50.

Club Champion Gordon Lyall comes into the ranking list at 102 putting him in third spot in the clubs ranking.  David Paul drops to 4th and Alistair moves to 5th place.
