Club Championships
We start off with a hearty CONGRATULATIONS to new member BRANDON HOLMAN who after his win over Geoffrey Gunawan, secured the C Grade Championships with 8.5 pts. (Editors apology - last week we showed Brandon on 7pts however a "half point "bye" was missed for the 5th round).
After a grueling 3 months we are finally down to the last round and though, along with Brandon, Gordon Lyall has taken out the A Grade and outright "Club Champion", there are three players still in contention for the B Grade Championship.
Last weeks result were:
A/B Grade:
Guy Burns 0 - 1 Gordon Lyall
Ross Jackson 1 - 0 John Whibley
Lars Dobbertin-King 0 - 1 Alan Winfield
B/C Grade:
Brandon Holman 1 - 0 Geoff Gunawan
David Scott 1 - 0 Hamish Lester
Mark Summers 0 - 1 Rick Lowe
Asher Te Whaaro 0 - 1 Savanagh Edwards
Current positons are:
A Grade:
Gordon Lyall - 8.5
Ross Jackson 6
Alan Winfield 5.5
David Paul 5
Alstair McGowan 4.5
Lars Dobbertin-King 4.5
Games from G Burns v G Lyall and L Dobbertin-King v A Winfield can be played through below.
B Grade:
David Scott 6
John Whibley 5.5
Mark Woodward 5
Guy Burns 4.5
Valera Bonyushkin 2.5
Geoffrey Gunawan 2.5
With one round to go only 1 point separates the top 3 players so the B Grade champion is going to be decided on the last night of the tournament.
Both John Whibley and Guy Burns had tough matches against "A" grade players last week so it could be David's turn on Tuesday to face the "Big" guns - Is he up to it ? He'll be a worthy Champion if he is!!
C Grade:
Brandon Holman 8.5
Hamish Lester 7
Rick Lowe 7
Mark Summers 6
Savannah Edwards 2
Asher Te Whaaro 1.5
Though the Grade Championship has been decided, grabbing the "runner-up" spot is not a bad consolation prize, so still something to play for, for those in contention.
